Who it's for

Founders who want an honest forecast and know where each deal is weak.

Why it matters

Founders tend to overrate their deals. A friendly call feels like progress, so the deal stays in the forecast even when nobody has spoken to the buyer or confirmed a budget. Scoring every deal against the same criteria replaces gut feel with a consistent check, and makes it easier to see which deals deserve your time.

The score itself matters less than the gap it reveals. Knowing a deal is weak is only useful if you know why. Showing the lowest-scoring criterion for each deal turns the scorecard into a to-do list: the next call should find out whatever is still unknown, whether that is the decision process or a champion.

How to use it

  1. 1On the Deals tab, enter each open deal with its amount and stage, then delete the example row at the top.
  2. 2Score all eight criteria from pain identified to next step scheduled: 0 if unknown or no, 1 if partly confirmed, 2 if confirmed by the buyer.
  3. 3Read the qualified percentage and status for each deal. 75% or more shows Qualified, 50 to 74% At risk and below 50% Unqualified.
  4. 4Use the Biggest gap column to plan the next conversation for each deal, then rescore after the call and before your weekly pipeline review.

Deal Qualification Scorecard: FAQ

How do you qualify a B2B sales deal?
Check whether you know the pain, have engaged the decision-maker, confirmed budget, understood the timeline or trigger, mapped the decision process, found a champion, learned what alternatives they are weighing and scheduled a next step. Each one you cannot confirm is a risk to the deal.
What is a deal qualification scorecard?
It is a sheet where you rate each open deal on the same set of criteria, add up the scores and compare the result to a threshold. It helps a team apply one standard to every deal, so the forecast reflects evidence instead of how a call felt.
How often should you rescore deals?
Rescore a deal after every meaningful conversation and review all open deals before your weekly pipeline meeting. Scores should change as you learn more. A deal whose score has not moved in weeks is often stalled, even if its stage looks advanced.
